Greetings!
I have discovered last night that, when one has gone for three months without the slightest taste of alcohol, going straight for the good stuff isn't the best idea in the world. I was quite surprised by how much of my tolerance I had lost, despite now being in the best shape I've been in years. Perhaps the 20 pounds I lost in Basic was my "alcohol absorption weight"?

I'm pleasantly surprised by how good the food here is. I've heard so much shit-talk about the Army food and how it compares to that of the other branches... and yet, I'm enjoying the Dining facilities here in the Presidio more than those of Lackland. Maybe it's just something specific to this base? Or perhaps it's just that Lackland's food seemed to have been worse due to being rushed through meals and yelled at by NCOs at the "Snake Pit"? I guess I'll find out how things are at a "real" Air Force base is when I get to Goodfellow or wherever I'm stationed afterward.
The city of Monterey is a blast. I've been able to get out into town and visit the Del Monte Center (the local mall), and absolutely loved it; it was good to be able to completely build up a new wardrobe (mostly at Hot Topic and Macy's... I was surprised to see such an expansive Men's department at the latter; I always thought they were about parade floats

).
It's wierd getting accustomed to how differently people look at me and act around me when I'm wearing the uniform... I certainly appreciate everyone's attention and respect, but at the same time... I'm not used to standing out so much. It almost feels like some sort of instant celebrity status, despite having not really even accomplished anything in the military aside from making it through BMT; I guess I just don't feel right having people be so generous toward me without having done anything yet to deserve it. I'm sure I'll get used to it, but at the same time, I don't want to get so used to it that I end up taking advantage of the kindness of others.
So far, I haven't had very many opportunities to draw anything too great; the sketchbooks they sell here on post have frustratingly rough paper which keeps the user from erasing effectively, grinds down pencils too quickly, and smudges worse than any other paper I've used before. Perhaps I'll order a Bristol pad, now that I have access to the interwebz, and possibly also see if I can have my folks send my scanner eventually. Or, I can buy myself a tablet PC and try out this whole newfangled "digital art" thing all the young'uns are so into nowadays?

Devious Comments
The best MRE was either the Tuna or the Beef Roast... Tuna because there were so many snacks and no heater pack to mess with, or the Roast because it was real meat, with the muscle grain and all!
