I have decided to start my own journal meme, out of the concept that "In order to truly develop in any ability, one must truly examine one's strengths and weaknesses in order to apply each strength properly, and work at minimizing each weakness."

For this meme, you must evaluate your own skills as an illustrator on a scale of 1-10, with 1 being lowest, and 10 being highest.

The categories will be based on illustrators' skills, since that's what I do... Elaborating on why you gave yourself that rating for each skill is optional.

So, for me it would be:
a) layout sketching: 7. I'm getting pretty good at creating poses and such, and coming up with good compositions... but can still use a lot of practice.
b) detailed drawing: 6. I'm not quite at the point I want to be in this department (such as =reiq or =Cataclysm-X ), but I see myself as being above average here, at least.
c) inking: 3. It's still not my strong suit; for some reason I still can draw good lines better in pencil than I can in ink...
d) coloring (traditional) : 9. I feel pretty good about my skills here.
e) coloring (CG) : 4. Some of my oekaki works are halfway decent, but I'll still require A LOT of practice before I consider myself genuinely good in this area.
f) motivation: 1. I really need to get off my ass and get some work done...
g) originality: 8. I like to design my characters to show things I want to see, but haven't seen anywhere else.
h) coffee addiction: 10. This is the only thing that allows me to produce quality work... now you know the great secret...

Hello!

I'm going to be going on a trip to see my family in Georgia; it'll be for about a week or so.

This'll be the first time I've been there since before my Grandmother (my greatest mentor as an artist) passed away about two years ago... I just don't want to miss any more opportunities to see my family.

Hell, work didn't approve my vacation time for it, but I'm going anyway. Travel is too expensive these days and the opportunities too few and far between... and we already had the plans made. Ironically, though my request for time off was denied, my boos is fine with it; just said I'll receive several "discipline points" against my record for going without permission.

Oh well, family is far more important.


So anyways, since I'm not going to be able to be online for about a week or so, I'll go ahead and share the project I've been working on:



It's a full character sheet for my character Lauren; I'm still working on coloring it... most people just do those in flats but I decided to do these in fully-rendered color just to be a pain-in-the-ass to myself.


So, see you all in a week! I'll be sure to take plenty of pictures while I'm there!

Eating raw cookie dough when you make it yourself is quite delicious; having an almost fudge-like consistency and great flavor.

Eating raw cookie dough that's store-bought... well, it tastes almost as good, but is perhaps not the smartest idea I ever had...

I missed the message center! The ad-free browsing!!!

So yeah... I got paid yesterday, and re-subbed.

Thankfully, the system saved most of my CSS (which really looks kind of poor, if you think about it...) and my polls and such.



So anyway, I have recently discovered that the local library has quite an extensive anime collection, so there is yet another diversion from being able to get important things done...

Also, I finally got word that my shipment of model kits has made its way out of Taiwan; I'll be among the first people on the forums to get the new 1/144 AEU Enact Agrissa custom unit! There's also another old 1/100 F90 kit to provide parts for my MG F90 project (the one I've been working on for what, a year now? Only the people from the hobby forums would even have a clue as to what the Hell I'm talking about, anyway...)!

Also, Guilty Gear Accent Core Plus is the greatest video game EVAR. Accent Core is shit; import a copy of AC Plus if you want to play a really innovative 2D fighting game!

Also, Kaya's new single, "Chocolat" is horrible... however, the B-Side, "Pourriture Noble" is one of the best songs he ever made. It may be worth getting the single just for the B-Side alone.
